Dimension: an earned way of differing

A dimension is a consequential way a continuing whole can differ. The difference must be available again, not merely named once.

At a declared reference and resolution, ask whether the variation is repeatable, consequential and non-redundant with the freedoms already identified. A new coordinate label alone does not answer that question.

A possible variation may end the line. A survivable variation carries the same identity through a declared range, either remaining viable or recovering before lineage is lost. A dimensional mode adds reusable organization: its conditions are distinguishable, transformations can be used repeatedly, the mode remains available, and it contributes a way of varying not fully reducible to another mode at the declared reference and resolution. Correlation between modes need not remove that operational independence. A fresh opportunity supplied from outside on every occasion is different from a mode the continuing identity carries as part of its own organization. This structural use permits discrete or continuous modes and is not yet a claim about a physical axis.

Manifested delay gives distinctions an order and history. Continuing identity makes it possible to compare variation within one whole. Its structure and surroundings constrain which variations remain available.

A geometric axis can represent a dimension once its meaning is established. A finer grid increases resolution; a nested whole changes relational depth; another explanation layer changes the reading. These can be useful without being the same kind of difference.

The primary engine has declared phase coordinates and depth contracts. A general rule that opens a new axis from interaction remains to be operationally defined. The DNA records that local gap instead of filling it with a visual effect or a new variable name.

Biology, cosmology and chemistry can introduce their own distinct variables and scales. A bridge to this definition must identify what varies, which identity continues, and how independence is established in that domain. Resemblance of shapes is insufficient.

Awareness can make more relations understandable without creating a new physical dimension. Let the interface disclose deeper context while identifying whether the change concerns access, resolution, composition or modeled dimensional freedom.
