A longer pattern is not enough: depth, connection and return
The author’s correction joins three requirements: depth within a dimension, participation across dimensions, and usable return through the same whole.

Length alone misses organisation
A long record can repeat within one narrow route. To understand the author’s claim about expanding awareness, ask where the record travels, which depths retain it, which other modes it reaches, and how the resulting comparison returns into the same identity.
Depth within a dimension, connection across dimensions and whole return are three distinct requirements. More of one does not automatically supply the other two. A large stored sequence can remain disconnected from later action.
The same input can take different routes
The source’s finite teaching construction sends the same 42 input bits through different routes. Each local update mixes the site’s retained value, the incoming bit and the preceding depth’s retained value. Its selected nonnegative weights sum to one, keeping values bounded.
That setup makes routing inspectable: hold the input and local update fixed, change where consequences travel, and compare what can subsequently be used. The construction illustrates a question about organisation rather than assigning consciousness to a particular string length.

Access changes within an available possibility
Source names available possibility. A particular passage changes which of those relations an identity actually participates in and retains. Learning a new connection does not require claiming that the possible connection first came into existence at that moment.
Questions to carry forward
What would show a richer operational organisation?
Demonstrate new independently useful relations, retained comparison and a consequential return. Counting layers or displaying more nodes cannot substitute for those observations.
