Supplied explanation

The author’s correction changes the default interpretation of an exception. Reversing word order may express a complementary direction, a different viewpoint, a distinct operation, or a genuine inversion of the source’s normative relation. It must not be declared an error simply because it differs from a majority ordering.

The maʿrūf/munkar pair at 9:67 and 9:71 is a particularly useful case. The relation between commanding and forbidding is reversed while the same moral objects remain in view. This is stronger than an unordered co-occurrence. Yet the counts remain tied to the Pass 2 family rule; the source provides the moral evaluation, not a universal rule that first position is good.

The darkness/light movement at 2:257 expresses both trajectories through the same pair. Night/day reciprocal clauses express a different operation: neither phase is intrinsically a moral failure. The classification must preserve cyclic polarity, orientational polarity, source-defined normative inversion, and unresolved changes rather than merging them into plus/minus signs.

The correction episodes add distinctions between an act, recognition, self-implication, an appeal, acceptance, a return, and subsequent conduct. Several can occur in one passage, but their subjects differ. In 9:118, divine turning toward people and their intended turning are not one actor repeating an action. In 21:88, rescue is not Yunus’s own later behavior. An instruction to David is not evidence of his completed later compliance.

Return itself is not intrinsically favorable. A person may turn during distress and forget after relief, as the Pass 10 reading of 39:8 records. A warning against returning to an accusation also uses recurrence unfavorably. The destination, continuity, timing and consequences must travel with the word.

An incomplete return remains informative. Regret is not the same as repair. A spoken commitment is not sustained reorientation. However, moral failure is not proof of absent observerhood: a system may compare and act in support of a harmful plan. The existence of a cognitive operation and its ethical evaluation are different axes.

Operational record: identify participants, predicate, orientation, reference, modality, temporal scope, qualification and actually narrated consequence. Do not replace this record with a generic successful-return chain.

Basis: author polarity clarification; Passes 2–6; corrective limitations in Pass 10; contextual examples in Passes 11–14.
