Collective scale

Sociology & history

How do people, institutions, beliefs, power, memory, economy, and history form wider identities without erasing persons?

Track distributed consequence, shared memory, unequal power, consent, dissent, repair, and collective correction.

Native-domain boundary

Y-Theory asks the structural question. The subject earns the mechanism.

Society & governance

Persons, institutions, power, dissent, consent, cost, and repair remain distinguishable.

Persons, institutions, events, sources, power, dissent, consent, cost, and repair remain distinguishable.

01The missing question relationship

Why can anything continue?

The missing question

Why does any difference remain distinguishable through change long enough to participate in reality?

Y-Theory begins before a finished object, clock, observer, or scientific subject is assumed. It asks for the minimum relational condition from which any of them could become available.

Seen through sociology & history

Before explaining matter, life, or thought, identify what must survive change for the subject to remain the subject.

02Inside, outside, relation relationship

The living triad

Inside, outside, relation

What keeps inside and outside different without allowing either to exist alone?

Inside and outside are roles relative to a selected identity. Relation both separates and connects them, helping constitute what each side is. Together they are the minimum complete living triad.

Seen through sociology & history

For a cell, person, planet, belief, or theory, the inside and outside change with scale; the need for a consequential boundary does not.

03Closure, leakage, recoverability relationship

What returns, what escapes

Closure, leakage, recoverability

Why do some changing relations renew while others disperse or lose their identity?

Closure is enough consequence returning to renew a distinguishable pattern. Leakage is influence no longer recoverably available to that declared continuity. Recoverability is the capacity to return before identity is lost.

Seen through sociology & history

Healthy closure cannot be inferred from local persistence alone; one identity can preserve itself by exporting destructive cost to others.

04Identity as history-bearing renewal relationship

P → Q → P′

Identity as history-bearing renewal

What is an identity when every complete state is changing?

The recognizable relational form returns through transformed states. P′ corresponds to P but carries the consequence of Q; identity is a wave of renewal, not a frozen substance.

Seen through sociology & history

Flames, organisms, persons, institutions, and software have different renewal mechanisms; the framework asks how each preserves a recoverable relation through turnover.

05Identities within identities relationship

Whole becomes participant

Identities within identities

How can one continuing whole enter a wider identity without losing its own boundary?

Update recursion renews one identity. Depth recursion lets a completed identity present one relational face inside a wider triad. The wider identity must earn its own consequence, return, and continuity.

Seen through sociology & history

Atoms, molecules, cells, bodies, societies, and digital systems may be nested, but each scale requires its own native formation and continuity criteria.

06Recursive Mind-structure relationship

The pattern was already present

Recursive Mind-structure

What is Mind before a particular identity earns thought, awareness, or experience?

Y-Theory names the recursively reusable inside–outside–relation structure uppercase Mind. It was already present when the living triad became complete; nesting now reveals how Mind can recur within Mind at every declared scale.

Seen through sociology & history

Every situated identity can be read through Mind-structure. This does not mean every identity thinks, observes, or has subjective experience.

07Dimensions and attributes relationship

Relational freedom

Dimensions and attributes

In how many non-redundant ways can a continuing relation vary and remain consequential?

A dimension is a repeatedly available, consequential, identifiable, non-redundant mode of variation at a declared reference and resolution. An attribute is the recognizable relational quality through which that variation becomes addressable.

Seen through sociology & history

Physical, biological, mental, social, and theological dimensions must name different native variables even when they occupy corresponding structural positions.

08Trace, memory, observation, observer relationship

Comparison returns

Trace, memory, observation, observer

What must happen before an identity earns an observer operation?

Residue becomes a trace when it preserves a past-specific address; memory uses that trace in present relation. An observation is an act of registration or comparison. An observer is a whole local Mind with differentiated internal relations, retained self/outside correlation and the ability to intentionally revise its direction or access. Repeated observation alone does not establish that organization.

Seen through sociology & history

Sensors, memory stores, organisms, people, institutions and agents have different mechanisms. Identify the observation each performs, then separately test whether a whole local Mind integrates self/outside correlation, retained comparison, intentional correction and expanding access at the claimed scale.

09Local cognitive mind relationship

Model and redirect

Local cognitive mind

When can a bounded identity model possible continuations and redirect itself?

A local cognitive mind retains and integrates history, models compatible continuations, acts through a selected route, receives prediction error, and corrects later operation.

Seen through sociology & history

Brains, collectives, and digital systems may instantiate different portions of this capability; the evidence must be stated for each system rather than transferred by analogy.

10Self-awareness, intention, choice relationship

The observer observes its method

Self-awareness, intention, choice

What changes when the observer can include its own standpoint among the things it compares?

The observer’s continuing self/outside correlation can itself become available for reflective comparison. It can recognize that its own interpretation or method changed, compare that with retained history, and revise its purpose or next action. This deepens the complete observing Mind already described; it does not introduce a second spectator.

Seen through sociology & history

Imagination expands represented possibilities; choice closes one route into action; consequence then reopens correction.

11The containing Mind relationship

Many centres inside one field

The containing Mind

How can local observers belong to one wider reality while remaining distinct points of reference?

Local observer-centres model and act within the same containing field, and their consequences return to it. Y-Theory names that widest manifested relational field the Containing Mind.

Seen through sociology & history

The structural claim is stronger than a decorative analogy: local model and action loops return into one containing reality. Phenomenal cosmic unity remains a separate question.

12Why theories can meet relationship

Relation through the engine

Why theories can meet

How can Y-Theory connect fields without saying that different things are literally the same?

Y-Theory compares identities through an explicit structural position in the Y Engine. The relation is A → engine position → B, while both domains retain their native identities, variables, mechanisms, evidence, and expected differences.

Seen through sociology & history

Physics, chemistry, biology, Mind, faith, history, society, and AI become different entrances into one inquiry—not interchangeable explanations.

13Corrected continuation relationship

The journey returns changed

Corrected continuation

What should return to the beginning after a learner can understand, compare, and act?

Completion is not closure against correction. The explanation returns to its first question with sources, consequences, limits, and revisions preserved, so the next inquiry begins from a changed state rather than repeating the old one.

Seen through sociology & history

A living theory remains capable of being changed by what it encounters while refusing to treat every new statement as automatically true.

What this path can and cannot carry

Persons, institutions, events, sources, power, dissent, consent, cost, and repair remain distinguishable.

Every claim keeps its exact status and guardrail. A structural correspondence may guide a test; it cannot borrow the native field’s proof or replace its variables.
